A Century of Women. Tommasoli’s photographs 1906 - 2022

A unique exhibition dedicated to women, as seen by four generations of Italian photographers.
Photography is not only a way of representing reality, but also of painting and reinventing it. The important Tommasoli photographic archive shows us women’s metamorphosis over the course of the last century, both in the daily life and in public stage. It's a fascinating journey, between reality and fantasy.

On display, more than 50 photographs that embody more than 100 years of history of photography, and an all-Italian artistic tradition of the female figure portrayed as an icon, symbol and subject. From the glass plate to digital photography, to video art: on display portraits, nudes, and experiments that immerse themselves in an unprecedented journey to discover the feminine and some iconic women who have made history, including a young Maria Callas. Within the exhibition, 3 main focuses: Out of the image, The ages of women, Time sign movement.

Tommasoli
The Tommasoli photographic studio, today Tommasoli Visual Factory, is one of the oldest still active photography studios in Italy. Founded in Verona in 1906 by Silvio Tommasoli, it has reached the fourth generation, evolving and changing over the years and yet preserving the characteristic that makes it a rarity on an international arena: the ability to carry on, in parallel and without any hiatus, both the activities of professional photography and artistic research, always aiming at uncompromising quality.
A studio d'autore that works internationally, today specializing in photography and video storytelling, which combines the ancient photographic knowledge handed down from father to son with the most recent technologies.
The professional and artistic work of the studio, spanning more than a century, is preserved and managed by the Tommasoli Archive: from negatives and slides on glass, to films and digital files. The collection is divided and organized into two funds: the historical one, referring to the work of Silvio, Filippo and Fausto (1906-1982) and the contemporary one.

With the patronage of the Municipality of Verona and the Arena di Verona Foundation, in partnership with SIZ - Industria grafica, with the support of Cantina Zymé - Celestino Gaspari, and in collaboration with Habitat Ottantatre.
