Sylvie e Bruno. Italian Premiere at the Ravenna Festival. Italy

Loosely based on Lewis Carroll‘s novel of the same name (translation by Chiara Lagani for Einaudi)

Final novel by Lewis Carroll

The play, based on the third and final novel by Lewis Carroll (the famous author of the two Alice stories), alternates between two different narrative levels: you pass from one to the other almost without realising it.

Lady Muriel

In the first, everything revolves around the captivating Lady Muriel, loved by a young doctor, but engaged to a soldier.

Sylvie and her little brother Bruno

In the second, the story of two children, Sylvie and her little brother Bruno, unfolds in a world of fantasy. The story, suspended between dream and reality, develops the dual, and at the same time single, plot of a fatally collapsing world, in which the power of beauty and love suddenly breaks through. Sylvie and Bruno is a contemporary fairy tale that has at its centre political crises, deadly epidemics and a tragic sense of ending, but also the creative force of dreams and the life-giving power of the imagination.
